Workplace Spinal Health Workshop
Low
back injuries are over-represented in ACC statistics. Many of these low
back injuries can be avoided. Research shows that the best way to
minimize the number of low back injuries in your workplace is to
develop a culture of safe manual handling.About the workshops The 'Workplace Spinal Health Workshop' is a 30 minutes session which is held on-site at your workplace. The workshop explains how back injuries occur, discusses methods to minimize incidents of back injuries and demonstrates correct lifting technique. Participants are invited to practice lifting techniques they can use in their daily work, and to identify and discuss how they can improve lifting technique. Information contained in the workshop is consistent with the DOL Code of Practice for Manual Handling. The workshop includes a PowerPoint presentation and hand-outs for participants to take away with them. The presenter is Dr Dave Kelly, a chiropractor who has specialized knowledge in prevention and treatment of spinal injuries. Workshop outcomes Our workshops are intended to help your workplace foster a culture of safe manual handling through sharing information and knowledge in a group environment. Questions and discussion are encouraged on aspects of spinal injury prevention your employees would like to know more about. Other benefits from these workshops may include improved efficiency, reduced injuries to employees, reduced sick leave and associated costs, and better team morale. Where and when For the convenience of your employees we run the workshop in a meeting room or presentation room at your workplace. We aim to maximize involement and engagement of workshop participants with an interactive focus and therefore limit the group size to 20 employees. Where more than one workshop is required they should be organizes 45 minutes apart.
